vanda's love water, if you have a watering system in your shade house, set it to go off twice a day for about 30 minutes each time, We have over a thousand, and keep them this way, they will florish outdoors.

During the winter months when it is cooler out, I only water once in the mornings.
Swamper, given the details you supplied, it sounds like we have taken notes from the same grower.
I've been getting advice directly from Bob hatos and inderectly from Robert Fuchs. I ve seen what they have done first hand so I figure why not copy the best. At least the best I know of. The only thing diff. Is I was told to wait till about 3pm when the sun wasn't so bright for that second watering.

The damage to the flowers on page one looks like it was caused by physical damage to the buds, when the plant was moved maybe you banged them around a little, I have seen similar patches and curling on Phals thet are allowed to wiggle and smash into other things. If you wanted to mount your vandas into a tree I would reccomend giving them a sideways lean so any excess water can drain away from the crown at least until they establish then you can let them grow naturally. dont be afraid of too much water getting on the buds, once a plant is well established it may bloom several times a year, which can makeup for any blooms that are prematurely aged by water. Also, if its only rain water it should have little effect on the floweres because it is natural, in their natural enviorment vandas get dumped on every other day, in flower or not, and yet they are beautiful.

I would definately be checking for thrips like Jerry said, if you haven't already. I spray mine for it as soon as I see spikes and continue thru bloom.

"A friend mentioned that Vandas does (do) not like water on the leaves or buds"

In this case your friend is information is inaccurate.

I liberally water my Vanda's . . . leaves, buds and flowers twice a day and have great success growing and flowering a variety of Vandaceous plants.
