Default Unknown Vanda Orchid- brown roots shriveling leaves

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Orchids and especially Vandas. I live in Laos and right now it is HOT season- mid 90s every day with no rain and about 60% humidity. To account for this I've been soaking the roots of my Vanda 2x per day for about 30 mins. Over the past few months this Vanda has gone from growing new roots to no growth and leaves shriveling. I did have to pull them off my porch because I believe the sun was hitting them directly causing some sunburn. Anyway, take a look at the pics and let me know if I should be doing anything different.

Thanks!

It doesn’t look nearly as bad as I expected from your description.

What is your feeding regimen? Formula, amount per gallon, and frequency.

I’d recommend using some Kelpak, as that can give the plant a boost and help stimulate root growth at the same time.

I think it's too much light and heat. They should be yellow-green but not that yellow.

Glad you think it's still ok! I have no feeding regimen besides soaking it 2x per day. In Laos it's hard to come by very specific products like Orchid food. Do you have some kind of general Orchid food/description of nutrients that I could have delivered from Thailand to help all of my Orchids with one product? It doesn't need to be a brand name or anything I just need an idea of what to look for to use.

The specific fertilizer formula isn’t all that important, as long as it is complete with N, P, K and trace elements. When I grew them, I fed bare-root vandas every one or two days with a 20-25 ppm N solution. If you divide 2 by the %N in any fertilizer, the result is teaspoons/gallon for that concentration. If you prefer metrics, 2.3/%N gives the result in ml/L.

Depending upon the chemistry of your water source, you may find it necessary to occasionally use a calcium/magnesium supplement, or if that is difficult to find, calcium. Nitrate and Epsom Salt can be substituted.
