Monster Neo & Tiny Sedirea
I went to OrchidMania's mother's day sale in San Francisco with the sole purpose of buying an orchid for my mom but ended up with a few others. A collector had donated their collection of rare Neos and Sedireas.
The Neo below is a standard in an 8" dia. pot. It absolutely blew my mind away when I saw it. And I couldn't pass up the Sedirea. I'm tempted to go back and buy some of the rare Neos.
The Neo is in a coarse gravel / succulent rock medium. The Sedirea was as well but it fell out while taking it home so I put it in sphag. The previous owner watered them daily but I have no idea how often he fed them.

OMG!!!! What a great haul! I am so happy for you!
That is the biggest, nicest Neo, I've ever seen! Super healthy.
And that little Sedirea is a mini. . .looks just like my little Sedirea Daruma Minmaru! See my gallery for pics!
What is the name of this place? And what else did they have?
Big ones like the standard version you found are super expensive! GO BACK and get the more rare type Neos! Your growing conditions should be EXCELLENT for caring for them!

This is the place: OrchidMania: Grassroots Support for AIDS Prevention/Relief and Orchid Conservation Unfortunately, they are only open certain weekends. They carry all sorts of orchids.
Sedirea japonica SEIGYOKUMARU is a super miniature version of Minmaru. I love how you mounted your Minmaru!
If I had a bigger setup to support more orchids, I would have purchased the other Neos I saw there. There were 1/2 a dozen variations of Neos and another Neo of almost the same size as the one I got.

Will have to run go look to see your link!
Really? How cool is that! How much smaller do you think?
What kind of growing setup do you have now? Cause you know, we've got to know!
Thanks so much for sharing! I sure am happy about what you found for your collection! Really NICE!
Edited to add: HOLY JUMPING CATFISHES! Is that Sedirea in a 2" pot? I want one!

It's in a 3" pot. The leaf span is about 1/2 that.
My orchids are facing a south eastern window that only gets direct sunlight in the early morning. They all sit on a humidity tray but we have a humidifier for the baby and some laundry always hanging to dry. Eventually, I'd like to get some sort of controlled environment for them. I think its a good spot for now as my trichoglottis is growing well in the same area. My only concern will be if this window povides enough light for blooming.
I can't wait to see the Neo bloom.

Spike?
I was inspecting the Neo today and removing dead leaves when I ran into something that looks like a tiny green crab claw. Given the position of it, I'm thinking it's a spike! Can someone confirm?

I don't think that's a spike.... What you have is probably a new fan forming.... I've got a few of those on my neos... none of which are nearly as huge as your OMG!!

Really? I thought new growths start at the base near the root. This is coming out from inbetween the leaves. Either way I'm happy that it's growing something =)

Nope. They start from near the base usually just above the base leaf on a fan. The spikes start from higher up. You should be happy as typically each fan produces two more fans (a doubling affect) thus the plant will be that much bigger.
