Sorry to jump in so late, but I am with Gwen, I say they are spikes! That is exactly what my Neo had when I got it, and I thought they were new growths, and to my surprise, they were spikes, and they grew pretty quickly and flowered for me! Spike, spike, spike!

Let me know what you find!
Gwen,
How are your Neo's doing in the medium you transfered to? I am thinking my orchids don't like the moss ball either, some of my Neo's seem to like it and some don't and I am pretty dang scared of rotting the roots and at the same time I am scared of dehydrating the roots...lol...I thought about repotting them, but they look so neat in the moss ball, so you gotta tell me how your orchids like their new mix. I wonder what they were grown in before Dr. Lehr had put them in the moss ball for us

Hello my buddy, Becca!

They're doing really well and seemed to have made the transition to the new medium without a single glitch. I think that moss topping I added is helping too. I am seeing lots of new roots.

Two of the ones I transplanted were in bud and there was no transplant shock at all. Both are still in bloom. BTW, those flowers smell amazing, super fragrant, like honeysuckle and roses! YUM!

I am using about 1/4 the recommended dosage of the MSU fertilizer, RO water and about a capful of the KLN to each gallon of water. I am watering every few days. I let them dry out lightly before rewatering but I don't let those new roots on top get dry at all. . .so I mist them as needed.

Good air circulation seems critical too!

Don't be afraid to make the change if needed.

Shams! I am soooooo glad yours are A-OK!

(Put the othe Anzu in another NWO pot just to be safe as well.) going to have to cut down on the dunking with these guys I think...

I'm sorry.. I totally hijacked this thread without thinking!
Excellent work!!!!

Hey Becca, when I picked up my Neos from Dr. Lehr, they'd forgotten to pt them into moss balls before they gave them to me, They were grown in regular little square plastic pots with only moss. Pretty ordinary Now keep in mind, these are pretty much all divisions. I'm not sure how long ago it was before they were separated from the parent plant.

Hi Again Gwen! I have one other question for you. I have seen in other threads to used a weaker then recommended dosage for fertlilizer. Is using a dosage of 125 ppm N solution when watering what you are talking about, or do you take the recommended 125 ppm N solution and dilute the mixture? I have always been confused, and Rays website mentions, and I have seen him mention in other threads, 125 - 150 ppm N solution at every feeding. This is what I have gone off of and all of my babies seem to be happy, but will this be to much for my Neo's?

Here is a link to one of the threads I was reading that Ray responded in: Shultz orchid fertilizer

Oh, and sorry for the hijack everyone!

Yep, based on the 125 ppm. . .I use 1/4 of that. It doesn't seem to hurt a thing to go the whole dosage during the big growing blooming cycle but I don't think they need that much every watering. . .so I go about a 1/4 less, using the powder form.

I mix up and use a gallon at a time for my orchids.

Update

The Neo is still going strong. A lot of the roots that had stopped growing when I received it have started to regrow. The 'crab claws' are definitely spikes. I just did a count today and there are 18 spikes in total in varying stages of development. I cannot wait till this guy is in full bloom!!

Ain't it great?! I can't wait for mine to get big like this. Well, actually, I guess I am going to have to wait! Right?
