The crab claws are spikes!!!!!!

Usually third growth down from the top.

now I'm confused.

I guess only time will tell what it really is...

I did another pass by this morning and found seven "crab claws" that I can see.

How high up are the crab claws? Third growth down?

I've had some down low too, though.

I guess, they're kinda like nubbins. . .crab claw nubbins. . .let us know what they turn into!

Not sure exactly what I'm counting but I numbered the growths in the attachment below.

mmm...... I'm still going to go with it's a fan. Much as I'd like to be as optimistic as our Neo Queen Gwen Admittedly, she has more neo experience than I do..... ( I love you gwen! ) but this is just from what I've seen from images posted so far.

and mine are pictured below. Fun fact! Geikkikan ( the variegated one) seems to have budded a new one since I got it last month! Just my observations... I don't think any of mine are spiking at all. Even Anzumaru ( the last one) has a crabclaw, and that's no where near blooming size.

But I do need your help Gwen! Anzumaru has a leaf turning brown and I don't know what to do about it!

Sure do hope it's a spike! But I've been fooled before!

Check out the roots, quick! I found that mine didn't love to be in those moss balls. . .that there wasn't enough air circulation for the roots.

So just about all of mine have been moved to a mix of small bark chips, chopped sphagum, little rocks and charcoal and such. I put a top dressing of the long fibered moss to help hold in a bit more moisture.

OK! The other Anzumaru looks fine (I had two little plants in one pot when I got them) I will check the roots again.

So... for the most part the roots look great on all the neos (checked all of them since I'm a bit paranoid) The Anzumaru with the brown leaf did have one that was starting to go brown, and I snipped it off up to the healthy part, repositioned it in the moss, and put the whole thing into one of the neo pots Dr. Lehr sent me, so hopefully it will be ok. (Put the othe Anzu in another NWO pot just to be safe as well.) going to have to cut down on the dunking with these guys I think...

I found another growth on another fan that's more developed. They are DEFINITELY spikes. No picture yet.
