Vanda 'Supreme Blue Fragrance'

I just received these two vanda plants from a seller in the Bangkok area. To my surprize, the plant is listed on the internet as a registered orchid by the RHS, Orchid Roots, and Orchidex. One of the places labeled it as a species, but these three websites show the history and parentage of this vanda, and I can assume that it is a hybrid of some sort.

It was first registered not too long ago in 2022. It was grown by Supreme Orchids.

Orchidroots tells pretty much the whole story:
V. Supreme Blue Fragrance = Vanda tessellata × Vanda Kultana White So one parent is a species (V. tessellata) and the other parent is a complex hybrid, V. Kultana White. You can drill down through the family tree of V. Kultana White - the name of each ancestor hybrid is a hyperlink that takes you to the next level of ITS family tree. You will have to dig down many generations to get to the species level of V. Kultana White, whick boils dwon to being mostly V. sanderiana and V. coerulea with bits of other things at every level, but that's the ancestry of most of the Vanda hybrids that you'll see. It's the "bits of other things" in varying proportions of specific cultivars, that gives all the differences.

From the names, remember that species names start with a lower-case letter and hybrids with a Capital letter. (Tags are sometimes wrong, but the convention is followed correctly in Orchidroots.)

Totally hybrid. Crossing a hybrid with a species, it's a hybrid.
