A bad root can sometimes still hydrate the plant, though not as efficiently as a good one. If you can keep it warm and humid, you may be able to keep it going until it starts growing a new batch. As long as the crown is green and looks OK, there's hope... Patience.
Of course, if you lose the crown, then it done... if the top part stays alive and green, it may be able to generate enough energy to produce some new roots. A Vanda with good roots and a bad crown can sometimes produce a new basal growth. If you have neither, than game over.
