Vanda Drying Up
Default Vanda Drying Up

I’ve got this Vanda Pachara Delight which is slowly dying on me. It suffered alot from sunburn last year, root burn from over fertilisation, and now slowly drying up as I was away from a 6 weeks holiday. I put a wick on its half dead roots before I left on holidays and got back with its current state. Any chance this will still survive or is this a goner? With winters approaching I think it would be much harder for this plant to bounce back.

It could survive. Bare root Vandas need watering every day.

That would be nice to. I don’t see any live roots tho. The yellowing of leaves is progressing more than what it looked like in the picture. I put it indoors away from bright light if that will help

Those brown leaves will drop. There are still some green ones. The big question is, are there still enough roots to hydrate the top part? Keep warm, water well (maybe even put a plastic bag around the roots except for when you water it, to keep up humidity) Good luck....

Unfortunately it doesnt have any live roots left. I had trouble getting it root before I left for holidays and it was the peak of summer here. Thought it would have bounced back but growth was stunned

A bad root can sometimes still hydrate the plant, though not as efficiently as a good one. If you can keep it warm and humid, you may be able to keep it going until it starts growing a new batch. As long as the crown is green and looks OK, there's hope... Patience.

Of course, if you lose the crown, then it done... if the top part stays alive and green, it may be able to generate enough energy to produce some new roots. A Vanda with good roots and a bad crown can sometimes produce a new basal growth. If you have neither, than game over.

I checked this morning and removed some leaves that were dropping off. more than half gone but that browning has progressed up. I turned myself in to a more unothodox way by putting some aloe vera extracts from the crown to stop that browning.

Do these concoction such as the well mentioned cinnamon really do anything?

It's not suffering from rot - it's suffering from not enough water and probably low temperatures. Your best chance is to keep it as warm and humid as possible and hope it makes new roots.

aussie boy...have you heard of or tried vase culture? My hanging vandas get an actual shower in my shower when I can't get them outside. But 1 that was in bad shape some 4yrs ago is much improved by living in a vase. Think I had heard about this technique either here or YouTube.

There is a "sticky" at the top of this forum, with a lot of info on vase culture.
