V. coerulea tolerates lower temperatures than most other Vandas, and blue hybrids may tolerate lower temperatures than other colors. However, an excellent grower in Huntington Beach puts his coeruleas into his greenhouse for the winter. I think you have been lucky. Most commercial Vanda growers advise not letting them go below 60 F / 15 C. Leaf drop starts at 55 F / 12C.

A little trick that may help in getting that plant rehydrated even with bad roots... Try adding 1-2 teaspoon of sugar to a gallon of room temperature water. Put the roots (not leaves) into the water for 1-3 hours. Then remove the plant from the water, and rinse in clear water. It can then dry out normally for the rest of the day You might want to do this exercise for 2-3 days. The sugar serves two possible purposes - first to encourage the transfer of water into the roots, and second maybe give them a few extra soluble carbs. Can't hurt, might help. After that, if you have Kepmax/Kelpak ( really good, if not you can try whatever kelp product you have) to encourage new root growth.
