Good questions KG!

I will take a closer look at the colours under different natural lighting - such as sunny, and in the shade. And will also monitor the colour as the flowers age.

At the moment, I suspect that sunlight mixing with the flower colours can make the colour look different (to our own eyes). When the lighting is lower - less bright - I reckon that the colour will look more violet/purply. I will check this out.

You may even find the same effect with your flowers too. When the lighting level drops --- you may see more purply/violet. In year 2020, I photographed flowers from this same plant in the shade, and it really did have the violety/purply colour (LINK - year 2020).

The flowers from this article tend toward violety/purply ones as well - PDF file link. I think that yours will probably take on similar colours when the lighting levels come down too - such as observing the flowers during early morning, or overcast days etc.

I'll do some more observing over here.

Ecuagenera just had them on sale. Shipping and bank fees aren't small but if you group order with friends or a society it's not bad. Get on their mailing list; you'll get advance notice of their sales.

DeaC ----- just confirming KG's mention of mid-size vanda. Flowering size appears to just require the plant to have a few long leaves. The one I have doesn't grow tall at any relatively quick rate, but as long as it keeps growing ----- it can get eventually get lots of leaves and fairly tall. I'll measure the rough height of it and let you know DeaC. Not very tall at all right now.

Bayard ----- the flowers have a scent. Thanks for asking about that.

Not the super strong and wafting around the growing area type. Can definitely smell the scent by just smelling close to the flowers. A pleasant appealing scent. No components within the scent that are off-putting.

Back again! DeaC --- this one is pretty short, approximately 20 cm or so.

I put it next to an Fdk. After Dark that is just starting to open the flowers. It's been rainy in Queensland for the past few days. The Fdk. got wet by the rain.
