My wife and I visited the Singapore Botanical Gardens today. This is one of the older botanical gardens in the world and as a world heritage site is truly beautiful. They host the Singapore National Orchid Gardens, which contains tens of thousands of orchids of all species. Since the last time I visited they opened a cool weather greenhouse, so it is actually a great place to visit to cool down, and you can check out all kinds of orchids while you hide from the equatorial heat.
Singapore and the SBG has a long relationship with orchid breeding. The first Vanda Hybrid (V. Miss Joaquim, now Papiolionanthe Miss Joaquim) was created in Singapore. As part of this tradition when celebrities, especially political celebrities visit Singapore and have time to visit the gardens they are "gifted" with a registered orchid in their name. This one is for Vice President Kamala Harris from her visit in 2021.
More to come, on a per species basis.
