That's a very nice plant! I sure wish that plant were a bit closer so we could outcross with it!
I've got only one of these, and haven't found anyone with a blooming sized plant to outcross with. The true identity of the plant is
Vanda roxburghii, with
Vanda tessellata being a synonymous epithet. The plant I grow is an
aurea form, taking on a more orange color in the flowers. The plant has since been confirmed by Eric A. Christenson that it is a true
Vanda roxburghii.
One thing about this species: they're easy. Mine is growing outside, hung to a tree. It grows nicely in low light, and can definitely tolerate higher amounts of sun. Watering is minimal, as you said, a drier species. I do find that extra watering (perhaps during your monsoon season) will inhibit more growth. These can become monsters, so be careful and don't stand to close to them!
