I bought this Vanda at Lowes last spring shorty before I got my geenhouse. It was flowering at the time. This photo is how it looks today in its third bloom in about 8 months. Lower flowers are 4.25" (10.8cm) in diameter.
It is in my greenhouse now, but it apparently liked being grown outdoors this summer. It was grown outdoors hanging from a cypress tree branch getting full sun until about 11:00am, then filtered sun thereafter. It was grown hot in the Mississippi summer heat, which is 95-100F every day at its peak. There is no pot but it has received daily watering of its huge root system. It received a lot of fertilizer (1tsp/gal 15-10-10 weekly) I had not previously grown vanda because the requirements didn't work for growing indoors or coastal Washington state where I last had a greenhouse.
I hope my two other large vandas (two other blues) do this well in the coming year.
