Default Vanda Kasem's Delight

Light levels , temperature, and amount of sun getting fast less and less these days in Europe. Days getting shorter. Winter is on the way.
Despite this , this Vanda decides to develop 3 spikes with huge flowers with fantastic colour. Must admit that the flowers are not as huge and well shaped as when they appear in spring or summer.

Stunning display, must be a sight to behold in the Spring and Summer displays!

How big is your plant?
I've been looking at getting some Vanda's but most I've seen for sale are really small and I've read it can be many years before blooming.

Consider Ascocendas... (probably all Vanda now) some great color - smaller flowers but more of them, and bloom on smaller plants than the standard Vanda.

These days many Vandas flowering often already when young and relative small plants. More than just a few years ago. It is one of the main reasons they are trying to achieve at the various Vanda nurseries, mainly in the far east such as Thailand. Others are cold tolerance, more compact plants, bigger , flatter flowers with even more vibrant colors. Buy Vanda small, or as half matured plants. They will have the possibility to get used to your personal environment, which means better growth and much better flowers.
The V. Kasems Delight shown above is no more than 50cm tall. Grows bare root in a plastic basket. I have it for about 3 years, and almost flowering all the time, because the flowers remain for almost 3 months in perfect quality!
When i got it , it was a real small plant..but flowering!

Motes and also Thai breeders have been producing smaller hybrids blooming earlier. Look occasionally at the Motes Web site for names to look for.

You can't go wrong with various Neofinetia intergenerics. Older nothogeneric names were Ascofinetia, Neostylis, Darwinara, Renantanda. They are smaller plants, flower younger, and some flower more than once per year.

Thanks Roberta, yes Ive been looking at those too. Very impressive plants.

Thank you also PeterNL and estacion seca you have helped with your information and suggestions.
Nice to know they dont have to be too large before blooming.
Great idea to check the Motes site, at least I get names to watch out for.
