Almost all of the buds have now opened, and the fragrance has improved. Apparently the blooms are popular with the neighborhood wasps and hornets. And I just noticed that there are two new growths around an inch in diameter at the base of the stem.

What you have is variety suavis. Standard tricolor has brown overlay on ellow over the white base.

While it comes from the equatorial region, it grows at elevations up to 4500' (or more), so it is a cool to warm grower. It does well under general Cattleya conditions, as long as you do not let it dry out between waterings.
