The large flowered hybrids are tough (they have a lot of V. sanderiana in the background). Look for Vandachostylis with Rhy. coelestis in the background, they are much easier to bloom.

Very nice Vanda! Clearly given much love! As I understood it’s more purple in color than blue? Or it’s just the camera?

The color in the photo is pretty close to actual color.

However, flower color can vary significantly with light levels. These flower spikes were initiated while the plant was hanging outdoors in full sun (I am at 40.5 deg N). I brought the plants in around mid September, and the plant started to bloom 2 weeks later.

In the similar colored V. Kultana Fragrance, I see more pink/purple in the flowers during the summer, and less in winter blooms (which thus appear more 'bluish').

Also, while V. Gordon Dillon is usually blue, we don't know which V. Wirat was used. When I google that name, I get photos ranging from blue to pink.

Hello again! This is old thread but I didn’t want to create a new one. So I pirchased Gordon Dillon x Wirat Blue seedling. That was the only size I was able to find here in Europe…
Anyone can help me with growing tips for seedling? Also how many years it will take aprox to blooming size?

hard to say with Vanda's but just to give you an idea, sometimes I have seen people take 5 years to get a Phalaenopsis seedling to flower for them for the first time (the fastest I have seen has been 1 year).

A Vanda needs to get much bigger. They are faster growers but I find initially seedlings do not have the same root mass as an adult Vanda, without many roots they grow slowly to start with.

Very hard to predict, in part since we do not know the size of this seedling.

Are you growing in natural light (house or greenhouse), or under artificial lights? At your northern latitude, you have plenty of light in summer, but not much in winter. If you grow under artificial lights, I would suggest extending the number of hours to make up for the lesser intensity.

Most importantly, do not let the plant go dry. I grow young Vandas in net pots (eventually graduating into octagonal Vanda baskets), with a spaghnum/bark mix to hold moisture around the roots.

I bought this Vanda hybrid in 2019.

Just for reference, it was very small when I first got it and it is still very small lol.
