Default Seidenfadenia mitrata -OR- hey, where'd everybody go?

i always find it funny when there is an orchid with only one species in the genus...this one is such an alien that it kind of makes sense that he's all by himself.

I got this guy well established two-three years ago and it had lovely flowers on it....they all dropped as i moved it and it did not like the accomodations i first put it in and a year went by with no flowers or appreciable growth.

Undeterred i moved it and low and behold, four spikes!

here he is a few weeks back

Looks almost identical to my holcoglossum sublifolium.

Looking like this guy is about to put on a show, looking forward to seeing the pics once fully in bloom!

Just wait. Taxonomists can change that in a heartbeat.

Example: There was a plant called Aerides japonica, one of several aerides species. Later, a taxonomist decided it was a monotypic genus, making the plant Sedirea japonica (sedirea being aerides spelled backwards). More recently, another taxonomist "determined" that the plant is really Phalaenopsis japonica.

Seidenfadenia mitrata was once considered to be an aerides, too.

Yes, the taxonomists are driving us all crazy.

At one point, the Saccolabium genus held about 350 species. Today there are only 5! Amongst the species moved out, are all 3 Rhynchostylis.

That looks like it's going to be quite a show! So cruel of you to put up photos before it flowers, now I'm dying to know what it looks like!
