First time flowering, only two blooms - this is a Motes cross specifically Vanda tessellata 'Mary Motes' x merrillii 'Rotori'.

The flowers are very waxy with an intense fragrance - antiseptic and smoky.

Vase culture - watered twice a week and roots spritzed the other days, fertilised every two weeks - grown in a south facing window with no additional lighting.

So this year the plant threw three spikes. The blooms start off ruby red and then change to a olive brown colour.

That is a fantastic looking Vanda, and nice to see the progress it made in one year! Congrats on the blooms, nice to see that natural light in the UK is sufficient to bloom a Vanda.

All my vandas including falcata bloom with natural light - this spring has been the sunniest on record and my vandas do seem to be blooming more.
