I really hate to say it Sue, but I really the the B.O.P. better than the Vandas. Sorry I mean I really like that Bird of Paradise a lot. My dad grew one in his greenhouse up in Niagara Falls and I have loved them ever since. If I had a way...

Ross, this BOP is a dwarf, patio grower. The plant itself is about 5 ft tall, in a 14" pot and gets full sun.
I can come up with the name of where I bought it, I think, if you want the info. It was mail-order.

Your Vanda is beautiful. You know I always appreciate pictures of vandas.
I also like your Bird of Paradise. It reminds me of Hawaii.....that was sooooo long ago.
BTW. I'm soaking my smaller vandas in fert water. So far no broken roots but I don't dare do that to the ones with 4 foot roots, or even 2 foot roots which sometimes are so thick.

Always Impressed
I'm always impressed with your blooms, Susanne. They're beautiful. Do the BOP come in different color varieties? Your's looks especially vibrant and colorful. Have given them as gifts but never owned one myself. I understand they take a few years to mature before blooming. How old is your beauty?

This is the third spring it's been here. When I got it, it was a small plant about 6 inches high! Has been moved into bigger pots along the way

Sue, those are spectacular! I really wish I had the ability to grow vandas, I just know I wouldn't be able to give them enough light. I love the way the flower stems twist behind each bloom... it reminds me of birthday candles!
