Good question Pat, a drenching process would be in order and a bit tricky. Will give it some thought, I know with my mounts and my flucuating schedule its hard to make sure they are watered 2 x's a day. In the meantime will place them on the want list.

I have several smaller vandaceous plants, and I just take them to the sink and pour fertilizer over the roots liberally every day. They look well hydrated to me, and seem to be growing quite well.
I heard someone say that you should wet the roots with plain water first, then use fert, otherwise you'll burn the roots, but I don't tend to believe this, as I have yet to burn a root. Someone else said that the roots are most able to take up nutrients when they're dry, so you should fertilize first to get the max bang for your buck.
I do give the plants a plain water flush with the veggie sprayer in the sink once a week or so.
edit: vandaceous plants I have: ascda pralor, ascda princess mikasa, vf blaupunkt, ascocentrum curvifolium. All of them are in nice bright light windowsills and growing well.

Patrick - beautiful plant! A question you might be able to answer about V. tessellata - it is, I think, one parent of V. Mimi Palmer, which has a fruity, grapey scent. Is the tessellata scented? I'm pretty sure the MP is the only Vanda that I've experienced with a scent (though I read that others are perfumed).
Vandas grown in the hot and humid south can turn into real monsters. Which I guess we like.
Regards - Nancy

Nancy,
Most Vanda species are fragrant, and some hybrids are fragrant... Vanda roxburghii (V. tessellata) is fragrant, though I forget the smell, and I may smell it later tonight, as I have to pull a ladder out to reach the top of the Vanda... =)
I think I posted on your pic that there is most likely Vanda roxburghii in that V. Mimi Palmer... it has the right coloration to be a parent...

Hi Shella ...
What kind of damage are you seeing? Vandas like lots of humidity and good air movement. It is especially important that the plant has a strong root system. Can you post a photo?

CNEOS- I just browsed thru your gallery and you have some really beautiful looking Ascon. Looks like you need to divide the Fuks Flame...hint, hint! Thanks for the show. They are my favorites also.

What and lose my chance to beat Ascda. Fuchs Flame 'Crownfox' CCM 87, AM 82 /AOS (March 1, 2001)?
This is one of the first vandae in our collection, purchased from RF Orchids in 1991 as a blooming seedling (one inflorescence on one fan). True to Bob's words, it's keikied like crazy. Occasionally, divisions happen by accident - will let you know.
Glad you enjoyed my gallery. Will have to post some new pics of our latest bloomers. Thanks for looking!
