New source for Neofinetia in Europe

Since finding a decent selection of Neos in Europe is not always easy, I thought I'd share a new vendor that has a nice selection of the common varieties as well as a few types of Sedirea japonica. They're called Orchids Deluxe, and are based in the Netherlands. Conveniently located 20km from my house!

I think they are a relatively new vendor since I only heard of them about a year or so ago. Plants are good quality and I'm happy with them. I though Neos were going to be a one time thing on their website, but they renew their Neo selection monthly now. If you're into novelty Phals, those represent the bulk of what they offer and are worth looking at too. As a note, having seen their stand at a show, the plants tend to be on the small side. They are lovely healthy plants and still an excellent vendor for plants you can't find elsewhere.

Interesting, base price of 20 euros for most, with rarer/slower varieties more. Homeiden is listed at base price, this one used to be expensive, it just shows how seed propagation reduces price.
Fugaku is another one that has been though a price drop over the years and is one of the few variegated types that can be grown from seed at reasonable numbers.

The only minor niggle I have with this site it that they could give a bit more information on each variety.

As for myself, I'm tempted with the Kibana as I don't have a yellow, Shunkyuden also. Unfortunately I'm out of space, and what's more I have some babies coming on as I've been doing some DIY seed propagation. I might even have to shed a bunch of plants on ebay to make space.

Seeing as Neos are a relatively new offering on their site (since May) and that Phals are their specialty, I don't find it too surprising that they give little information. I got a Kibana from them. It was a bit smaller than the plants I get from my regular Neo supplier, but a nice healthy plant. It was also cheaper, but since the plant is smaller, that's fair. I may have to get a Fugaku, the one I have is a solid green... Vigorous grower, but green. When I order again I will suggest that they include more information on their Neos.

Since space is a concern, may I chip in with a few recommendations and non recommendations?

You mention Homeiden. I was taken by the front cover photo of a Homeiden on a commonly available hard covered Neo book with its broad white inner variegation on its top leaves, and failing to achieve that after spending hundreds of Dollars (US) on 3 of them over a period of years because of cultural issues which i eventually discovered here. Be sure to read my recent thread in this forum questioning Homeiden culture.

Fugaku varies greatly in quality of variegation. Hold out for a great one which will give you a lot of pleasure as will Shunkyuden which is admittedly an acquired taste.

Good luck with the yellows, I’ve failed to bloom any over a period of many years. Recently purchased a Yubae of exceptional quality but so far have not been able to bloom it. It is now showing a spike which has remained essentially dormant for a couple of months.

Camille it is great to see you are continuing to add to your Neo collection. Finding a local vendor is awesome, I would much rather hand pick my plants. Hmmm a trip to Al’s this weekend would be nice, it’s been months.

I too recently added a small Kibana to my collection, had been wanting one for awhile and Satomi had one on eBay. I hope to see some flowers soon!

6-7 years ago, and even as recently as a couple years ago, finding Neos in Europe was tough. Now I have 2 sources in the country I live in.

Happy you got a Kibana, it seems like one of those varieties that are a must have in any collection.
