Another orchid I would like to find in Florida but would be happy just to find one in bloom. Any help from the more experienced lovers of orchids would be greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend.
I have been specifically targeting very fragrant orchids and not doing too well in my choices.
I have two, one from Andy's Orchids in California which is mounted on a cedar plaque Andy's Orchids - Orchids Species - Orchids - Species Specialist - Orchids on a stick. Normally I promote orchids from Andy's, but mine came to me infested with Shore Flies which are relatively harmless but spread fast. They only eat diatoms and algae, but are a pain and not easy to eradicate. The second plant came from Hoosier Orchids - my all-time favorite spot to buy orchids. It is potted in coarse bark and doing very well.
New World Orchids have many neos - New World Orchids Neofinetia falcata
Unfortunate for you, they are in Michigan
I am going to post a link here from orchidwire.com that will give you orchid resources for Florida - OrchidWire - Orchid Vendors in Florida
Hopefully this will assist you in your findings outside of the other member's connections
Thanks Ross and Dorothy for your respones. I am a new member and can't believe how much help you get from other members. What a great bunch of people. I hope someday when I have some experience I can do the same. Regards.
Hi Uechi, I purchased a neofinitia falcata last year from Orchids by Hausermann. It bloomed the same year and is growing nicely. I highly recommend them. I live in NYS and the plants arrived in the cold months healthy. I can only imagine the success you will have.
If you are looking for a fragrant orchid, have you tried oncidium "Sharry Baby"? It is highly fragrant like chocolate and is fairly easy to grow.
Fragrant orchids that I own -
Iwangara Apple Blossom - highly recommended .. but can become a large plant
Phalaenopsis bellina or violacea .. there are many hybrids/crosses of theirs that produce aroma .. medium sized plant
I find them both easy to grow for my conditions .. indoor, windowsill of the Northeast
Click on either of the US search engines, type in the name of the plant you're looking for and the engine will search through dozens of US vendors...really a great tool
Thanks again everyone for your prompt respones and you important inputs. To Moogiemama, yes I have two Oncidium Sherry Baby's in bloom. They are wonderful. I like them so much I purchased one on line to send to my daugher-in-law in South Carolina.
