Default Think my Yoroidoshi Neofinetia is mutating

I was watering the orchids this morning, and inspecting the Neos for new roots and growths. I had not noticed before that on Yoroidoshi, the newest leaves on the new growth look a bit different. One has marginal striping, and the one above it also has a yellow edge (but paler and the color doesn't come out well in that photo) as well as seems to be tiger stripes.

Edit: further look at that growth reveals that all the leaves have some smidge of yellow somewhere!

If it is a mutation, and a stable one, that would be pretty cool as I have just 7 Neos and have had them 6 months max.

The markings on this leaf don't come out well on camera. They aren't very bright, but do show up better than this to the naked eye. There are other stripes further down the leaf as well.

There is a variety of tiger variegated Yoroidoshi called Hotaru, which develops tiger variegation in high light.

Sudden development of Tiger variegation is not unheard, and it's quite a lucky circumstance to see it.

I hope the variegation develops for you further because it will be a very pretty plant when it does so.

Thanks for the information! If future growths coming off this mutated one also show the variation, does Hotaru become the new name, or an addition to the original name?

I hope the variegation continues to develop. I read that Yoroidoshi is very difficult to bloom, so I'll likely enjoy it for its beautiful needle leaf shape. Tiger variegation would be a bonus!

I don't think it would take on the name Hotaru. Hotaru is a specific tiger variegated Yoroidoshi rather than a name for any tiger variegated yoroidoshi.

Yours, if it continues in that direction would probably simply be called Yoroidoshi no Tora.

Wow Camille that is awesome, I would appreciate it if my plant had this coloration.

I have what appears to be the beginning of a spike on my plant? If this never flowers, I will be fine as I truly love the look of this plant. I also have Fukujyumaru, another small needle leaf and it is really cute as well.

It will be interesting to see how your plant continues to develop!

That would be great if it was a spike! Mine has what appears to be a new growth coming off the original green growth.

As to the mutated growth, after a super sunny weekend the tiger stripes are almost twice as bright now, it's really visible!
