Many Korean growers grow their neos mounted on pottery as well, in addition to wood and stones.

Korean growers however, water their mounted neos 2-3 times a day, every day if they grow indoors. Many of those who grow these in a greenhouse maintain lower humidity than typical western greenhouses and still water them more or less once every day.

The method can have some very impressive results, but it's not really a practical way of growing for most hobbyist growers unless they have an automatic sprayer system. Of course you could use a porous clay pot filled with water to gradually supply moisture, but that's not possible with stone and wood mounts.

WOW Hakumin! These are amazing, what a display. Have you grown any Neos mounted on pots or stone?

This would certainly take a lot of time and devotion to create such a work of art but damn, it would be worth it with results like this. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing these pictures.

In case you haven't seen it before, this is a Korean site that has been posted before:

(I can't read it but just started clicking. A lot of beautiful mounts. Worth your time just to look.)(EtA: I think Hakumin's second pic is from here.)

These threads are OB members attempts and what I followed:
Backwards SH?
Mounting on clay pots

My olla is filled with water and LECA to distribute the moisture better. I made the lid to try to control seepage (a decent seal) but the LECA worked better. It is basically a cool log and I feed it externally.

I did have one mounted on slate tiles. That was PIA! Like mentioned above, watering was a hassle. I might try again if I can set up a reservoir and timered pump.

I have a couple in sphag but I'm not a fan of it. I don't care for the traditional style (sorry but I think it looks like a bowl of discolored rice).
