N Tenkei Fukurin (Originally identified as a Gojofukurin)

The N Kinkabuto has terrific variety in variegation among its leaves. At the next repotting, I will be removing all the green growth. Some growers would leave it in but not me.

Beautiful variegation! I like the red on the Beniougi leaf edge. Is that a Drockrillia lichenastrum next to this plant? I have a thing for Drockrillia.

When you remove the green growth from the Kinkabuto, what will you do with the growth? Will that growth remain green or develop variegation? It is a beautiful plant as is.

I have Gojofukurin, recently purchased from Satomi. It is much smaller than your plant and has very nice color. Thanks for sharing your pictures!

I will give the separated green growth to a friend starting out in the hobby. I do not believe that it will ever start forming variegated leaves. The question is whether any offshoots will be variegated for which I don't know.

As far as the Dendrobium you are questioning about, it is lichenastrum.

What do you do with the all yellow growths on your Kinkabuto? I have a Takara-nishiki that has developed a few growths that, so far, only have yellow leaves.

All yellow growths, known as ghost growths, have no chlorophyll and therefore don't supply sustenance to the plant.
Sometimes those growths may start producing leaves with some green but if they don't, the plant for its survival may start producing an all green growth or ideally a variegated growth with both yellow and green. If it produces an all green growth, of course don't remove it and hope the next growth will be nicely variegated with both green and yellow. Until you have many variegated growths with both yellow and green don't even consider removing the all green one if ever.

As far as removing the all yellow growths, with a plant that is struggling you are probably best to leave them on the plant instead of shocking it and as I said, there is a chance they may start to produce some green.

Lovely Neos! Can't say which I prefer, I love the red margins on Beniougi, but Kinkabuto has beautiful variegation, and Gojofukurin is such a large plant! I almost got a Gojofukurin, but in the end chose a Higashidemiyako instead, since the name in English will always make me think of my beautiful trip to Kyoto.

It would be interesting to see if the green growths do in fact have variegated offshoots. I assume this plant did not have green growths when you acquired it but developed them over time?

Thank you for the reply to the lichenastrum. I really like the small, mat forming Drockrillia.

I don't recall whether the plant when purchased had the green growth but it wouldn't have mattered to me because I liked the variegated growths on the plant.

Yes, I agree that green growths on a variegated Neo are annoying. Subsequent to the taking of the Beniougi picture, it developed an all green growth which I removed when the plant got stronger.
