Default Four new Neofinetia - I have no self control!

If you have been following Patty's last Neo thread, you already know that I have found a dealer (um, vendor) in Europe to feed my growing Neofinetia addiction. Buying Neos in Europe is difficult and there's usually not much variety available. So I couldn't believe my luck when I found a guy who imports all sorts of Neos from Japan and South Korea, who is in the Netherlands, and even better, is only a 20 minute drive from where I work (that sounds dangerous for my wallet!).

I somehow managed to chose what I wanted in his huge list, and somehow ended up with 4 plants instead of the 2 I had intended. So please meet Shutenno (pink flowers), Tamakongo (bean leaf), Higashidemiyako (variegated) and Kishu-Ryokofu (green flowers). I finally got them on Friday, and since 3 were bareroot, I spent my morning potting them up.

This is Higashidemiyako, which I read means 'east side of Kyoto'. I chose it because I was in Kyoto last month, so I though it was perfect. And I wanted a variegated plant!

Next is a cute little bean leaf, Tamakongo. I had a hard time chosing which bean leaf to get buy, but since one seems quite popular and easy to grow/bloom, and the plants for sale were a nice size, I got one.

Kishu-Ryokofu is the largest of the 4, with 4 fans. I'm looking forward to the green flowers!

And finally; a classic Neo in many collections; Shutenno. I've been wanting one for ages, so I'm quite happy now.

And after potting them up, I rearranged the orchids on my shelves so that I could have these on the same shelf as my other 3 Neos. I'm starting to have a nice Neo collection! I also solved the problem of the plants being easy to knock over, by putting a bunch of rocks in the pots. Now they're quite heavy so I hope to not knock them over as often.

That is a nice haul. But, I'm intrigued by your shelf. Could I see a picture if it?

Self-control and Neos aren't mutually compatible.

Camille they are gorgeous, so happy for you! They all look very healthy. Your moss mounds look nice as well, I’ve never had a bareroot Neo.

Now that you have a dealer near you, you’re in trouble. Relax and enjoy it! You are able to pick the exact plant and not worrying about shipping or the additional cost.

The window you grow in looks to have good light! My plants have a northern exposure so I have to use lights. Is that a Sedirea Japonica flowering?!

Thanks for sharing, congratulations!

Very nice selection and pretty display. I only have 4 neos and your potting job looks so well done. How often would you repot, changing s/m etc? TY

Glad to see that everyone approves of me spending more than I intended! These little plants are nice candy, there is no way to stop... I see more Neos in my future.

I thought I had a photo of the stand that I took over the summer, but I can't find it, and now it's dark and the photo I tried to take didn't turn out well. It's a cheap metal stand from Ikea. I like them because they (I have 2 of them) look nice in the living room. The widest (and with tallest space) shelf is the bottom one, and them the ones above get narrower. I can't find it on the US Ikea website, but it's this:
LERBERG Etagere - IKEA

Thanks! I was surprised that 3 of them were bareroot, when he sent me photos they were potted in bark.

All the windows in my apartment are south facing, and the plants love it. Being so far north the sun isn't that strong and I grow everything in south facing windows, even my Phals and Paphs. That flowering plant next to the Neos is my Phal pallens, this year it's blooming off the main plant and the 3 keikis that I haven't removed yet!

As with any plant in sphag, most Neos are remounded in fresh sphragnum once a year or so, but I haven't had Neos long enough to know for sure!

Those look beautiful! I bought my first Neo on Facebook last August and it rotted away in a week , and they're really hard to find in Mexico too, so I was really sad. But during an orchid show in October I finally found a guy that specializes in Neos and Sedireas (and even better, he grows them in S/H, which is my preferred method). I showed a lot of restraint and only bought a standard Sedirea japonica and a Neofinetia falcata "Kibana" because I want to be sure they bloom under my care before I go crazy buying all of them. If they do, I'll try to get a Shutenno and a Kishu-Ryokofu like you next year!

Camille these are great! I really like the Tamakongo, I like all of the smaller orchids. I may have to find a place for one of these bean leaf orchid in the camper or two or three. Super job on the moss mounds, was this hard to do?
