Nice work! I cant wait for mine to get that big! Right now it's only about five inches tall. (The orchid, that is. No pun intended by my typing; unless it gave you the laugh of the day, but still, no pun intended).
Is there anything better really? On a rainy day you can't go out and play, but the orchids, with their tantalizing ability, offer all the entertainment you need.

Thanks, Snow! I hope you'll post photos when you pot your's!
Jordan,
Mine aren't that big. Those are 9cm pots (the tallest one is in a taller, narrower pot - 7cm) The two hybrids (Neo x Vanda & Neo x Ascm.) are slightly larger than the straight Neofinetia falcata.
So, your's is big enough. (Not that size matters!)
I was so happy with them, I've done two other plants this way. Now, I have a nice little collection on my windowsill!

Ohh! That makes me feel better. Supposedly mine already bloomed once before purchase - it still had the dried spike on it. It is putting out a new one now, so I hope I get flowers soon! I'm going to a show the start of May, and I haven't bought any orchids since December. Big shopping spree!!! I'll look for some seedlings at a good price and start 'em up! I'll definately try that new (to me anyway) style of potting. Looks to nice to pass up!

Hi Ely, could you take a picture of what the spike looks like? I have never seen one before and I am confused if I have new growths or spikes starting on mine. Thanks!

Well, I just emailed Dr. Glen Lehr requesting to purchase the following two, potted up in Japanese style in two of his 4" diameter Neofinetia pots:
Akabana a pretty pink bloomer.
Hakuun a nice varigated one.
But there are soooo many more to choose from. OMG, I love the yellow ones and I would really like to have one tiger striped one. I had a really hard time picking just the two.
P.S. I got my Neofinetia (standard form) yesterday. Plan to play potter this weekend. Muh ha ha ha

Yes, Jordan, please post a pic for us!
Gwen, I've got a 'short list' a mile long... have to find a way to narrow it down some more, or they won't have any room to bring any other plants for sale to the show! Its almost like a mini project - but I've got 20 on my list!
If I posted the list, would everyone vote?
Becca, I've read elsewhere that new grows than spikes can get confusing, and what starts off like a new growth seems to morph into a spike! I'll try to find a link to the info (with pictures) when I get back from London. I think it was on another forum.

I love the Akabana, Gwen! Its one on my list.... I must confess, I'm not very taken with the 'tiger stripe' ones... (at least there is something to help whittle down the list!)
I was thinking of splurging on this yellow one:

I know there is some debate about yellow Neofinetia - some say that there must be Ascocentrum blood in there somewhere. But either way, I'm not a purist - I love the intergeneric hybrids!!
Check out the cross between Neofinetia falcata x Sedirea japonica!!!
Neosedirea Summer Stars
Now that's one I'd love to have
Hope your potting goes well today! Can't wait to see the results!

That's the fun isn't it? Some just don't strike a fancy at that moment. Kinda like love at first sight. lol It either happens or it doesn't.
I was seriously admiring those yellow forms! Nice Nice Nice!
Very intereting cross with the Sedirea japonica! That's really beautiful & different!!!!
I just woke up and haven't begun my coffee and orchid staring rounds, but can't wait to play Japanese potter.
I bought a pot yesterday but wow, it sure is big. So I don't know if I have a big problem (pot too big) or small problem (Neo. too small).
I guess it will all work out.
