Light question for Neos Male
Default Light question for Neos

So in my collection, I only have two Neofinetias, and they need to compete for winter grow space with my larger plants. When the weather breaks in the coming weeks, most of my collection moves outside until the temps drop in the fall, and I'm unsure where to put my two little Neos.

They're both recent acquisitions. I got one two months ago, and another one this week. They haven't been anywhere aside from a shaded east-facing window with two mini phals. When the weather warms up, I have two porches to choose from. One porch is enclosed with west, north and east exposures, and the other is open with north, east and south exposures. I can place them anywhere on the porches to get proper light. Would it be better to place them in a brighter window when I get the room, or place them on one of my porches with the rest of my plants? Thanks in advance for any replies.

DeePO, Neofinetia are very easy growers. I would place them on the porch where they get bright shade--east, north, west. I would not place them where they get southern light exposure.

Neofinetia are "supposed" to get a lot of sun in the winter. They grow on deciduous trees, so in the winter, bright light (not direct sun) would be perfect. In the summer, the tree canopy has them in bright shade.

My Neofinetia grow on the east or west side of my house where they get lots of sun either in the morning or in the afternoon.

Growing your plants in the summer it is very important to provide them with plenty of good water and fertilizer because in the winter season, you do not give them a lot of water or any fertilizer. I look forward to late Spring, Summer and early Autumn because this is the time of year of growth.

Thank you for the input. I think I've been treating them too much like phals. I should've put them under lights for the winter with some of the others, I guess. Anyway, now I can shove them out there in a few weeks when the time comes. Thanks!

Yes, Neofinetia need brighter light than Phalaenopsis.
