Several spikes blooming this weekend. First good display from this one since I got it as a small seedling in 2011.

Hi,
beautiful, I wish I could grow orchids outdoors, but here the heat is deadly.
ciao Nicola

Nicola, look for Eulophia petersii and a lot of the Oeceoclades from Madagascar. The Eulophia will take dappled sun and the Oeceoclades need full shade. I can grow these outside. They are not damaged when we reach 45C.

I heard Bob Fuchs or RF Orchids speak to our orchid society. He said Renanthera and Arachnis species and hybrids tolerate temperatures well above 40C if the humidity is very high.

And I will be trying Cyrtopodium species outside eventually. I have seen them growing on sunny, black rocks in Bahía, Brazil, not far from Bom Jesús de Lapa. Locals told me the area gets above 50C in the shade during the wet summer. I have some smaller plants; I plan to divide them after this growing season and try one outside in summer 2017.

This one sits under a palm tree. It might get some dappled sun during the day, maybe 30-60 minutes of full sun, but very little full sun except for that hour around 11 a.m.. But I'm sure it could handle a lot more sun and might even do better.

That's gorgeous! Of the Neo hybids Neostylis Lou Sneary is probably tops in popularity (for good reasons), but this one can't be beat for putting on a show. Larger plants become pendulous too. I grow mine pretty much like yours, maybe a tad more light. And she doesn't sulk down into the 40's or days on end of 90+.
