Last one blooming out of season. A variegated variety with normal white blooms. I find it difficult to get a good focused photo of the blooms and actual plant.

I typically use a manual 55MM micro lense. Maybe I'm using the wrong lense? Suggestions are more than welcome!

Your plants are blooming out of season. What are your cultural conditions?

Yes I have three blooming out of season all of which were relatively new plants with exception the the shunkyuden. Might just be culture shock coupled with an unusually warm november and December.

My apartment also stays relatively warm. That may have drove these few into pushing up spikes earlier than others. Most of my other neos have new growths that are just waiting.

One way to get a better depth of field for a small object is to shoot it at some distance with very bright light and very high resolution, then crop and enlarge.

Actually, distance doesn't matter as much as the F stop. Increase the number and make sure there is enough light to get the correct exposure. Although, I think the photo is really nice and soft shallow depth of field is complementary here

Marco indicated he wants the whole plant in focus. With a macro lens and a large object like an entire Vanda falcata, increasing F stop leads to chromatic aberrations because different light colors are diffracted differently. Smaller apertures lead to sharper focus. Plus few people have light equipment bright enough for wide aperture macro shots. The solution is to use the right lens - a portrait lens - and increase the distance.
