Neo. Falcata 'Amami Island x Mendenhall
Our only Neo., got from Carter and Holmes via the Kennedys in spring 2014. Plant now has 5 growths in a 2 3/4"netpot with a 3" slotted overpot potted in hydrocorn.
Spent a cool summer outside on our south facing 3rd floor balcony and when brought back in in Sept. and placed under 4 x 4' t5 HO lights I guess it thought it was spring time and started a spike.
Of the 4 buds that started only 2 have opened, nice 'vanilla' scent.
I also have a question someone more familiar with neos may be able to answer-this one has pink/purple on the dorsal sepal and petals and less purple/pink on lateral sepals- is there a name for this coloration? It also has pink root tips.

There are named varieties (= plants originally found in the wild) with similar color.
Since this plant is seed grown, it does not qualify for a Japanese varietal designation.
You are free to give it your own varietal name, such as 'Toronto Pink'. However, that name does not get any official recognition, unless the plant is granted an AOS flower quality or horticultural award.
