Brown Blooms: Did I under or over water it? Male
Default Brown Blooms: Did I under or over water it?

Hi guys! I picked up my first ever Neofinetia falcata a couple weeks ago and it was doing really well. Unfortunately i've been sick so I was unable to smell its flowers, now i'm just getting better and was sad to discover all the blooms had stopped smelling and by this morning were brown and simply snapped off from the stem when I so much as touched the flowers

I'm new to N. falcata so I was just hoping someone could tell me what caused this to occur. It had 4 big beautiful flowers but none now. It's foliage is a good medium green and the leaves are firm and overall the plant looks like it is in really good health.

I don't have it in a traditional pot yet, it is in a mini clear plastic orchid pot with a large hole drilled into the base because I was told to touch the moss from the bottom hole and if it felt almost dry I was to water to plant. I think there is a possibility I let it dry out a bit too much before watering and perhaps that is why it aborted it's blooms?

Any thoughts would be great, I just want to make sure I know what I did wrong so I don't kill the entire plant.

Planted in: sphagnum moss
Pot: clear plastic orchid pot with finger sized hole drilled in base
Temp: 21°C
Water: Distilled with 1/4 strength liquid fertilizer (all purpose 10-15-10 from Mircale Gro that I use on everyone)
Light: Indirect sunlight from an East Facing window.
Humidity: It's very dry here, I will be putting it on a humidity try soon if people think it needs higher humidity.

I have included a photo I took on the day I bought it, it no longer has the blooms (I didn't cut back the spike, should I?) but the foliage looks exactly the same.
