Thanks Leafmite. Fairorchids, it seems to me you are a very experienced orchidist. Thank you for providing your information--I learn from you every time you post. I sort of knew that about pod parenting but you confirmed that for me and now I have a good example of the importance on who is in front of the "x" as in V. sanderiana x Neof. falcata.

Speaking of which, the second tier of flowers has now opened. A sunrise photo.

Matt,

I grew up in an orchid nursery (specializing in Paphs, but dabbling in many different plants). Worked for my dad after school (& job) for 9 years. I have grown Orchids + assorted other tropicals as a hobbyist for some 20+ years, so I guess I have a bit of background.

I also do speaking engagements on both Paphs & Vandaceous.

In full bloom and the scent is even stronger--its scent seems strongest mid-morning. I suppose with this many blooms completely open, every flower adds to the plant's fragrance.

Two weeks later, in full bloom, not a single flower has dropped. That long lived characteristic is thanks to its sanderiana parent.

Thank you Debra. The last picture was the plant in my master bath/solarium. These flowers are all gone now.
