White or cream center but edged in green?

There are a lot of striped varieties with green centers edged in white or cream.

There must be because there is a term for it, naka-fu.

Do you have SE's booklet? Page 17 has 6 examples of naka-fu. I'm just not sure if they are cream or yellow.

Manazuru (mutation from Nishidemiyako)
a few others but to many, will try to find the names.

edit : found these
Kokkouden
Okinasisi 翁獅子
Ootori 鳳
Mikado 帝

There really aren't many of them, but several of them do exist. However, if you're looking for a stable inner stripe with a clean delineation between the the variegation and green, you're out of luck. The ones that have a clean distinct stripe down the middle are usually not stable and the stripes can become random in new growths. The ones that have a stable inner stripe tend to have a hazy or blurry transition between the green and variegation....

To add to the information s.kallima listed:

Akebono 曙 - The inner variegation is usually stable, but I've found that the division between the green and variegated parts are hazy. The pale inside is also usually greenish.

Ooemaru-Nakafu 大江丸中斑 - The inner stripe variation of an Ooemaru-shima. As with inner stripe variations of normally random striped plants, the variegation isn't stable.

Okinashishi 翁獅子 - Mutation of Naniwashishi with inner stripe. Has the same haziness as Akebono but with a contorted leaf form. (this is the same as the okinasisi that s.kallima mentioned)

Ootori 鳳

Oborozuki 朧月

Kinkou-Nakafu 金広中斑 - Inner stripe variation of Kinkou-nishiki. Unstable

Kinginhou 金銀宝

Kokkouden 国光殿 - This one is more often classified as Navy Fukurin, but I guess it could be considered a lighter green inner stripe

Shinkyoku 神曲

Shindai 神代 - Inner stripe mutation of Kinkabuto

Fuji-nakafu 富士中斑 - Fuji-nishiki inner stripe variation

Houkuuden 宝宮殿

Mikado 帝 - Another variation of Ooemaru-shima

Manazuru 真鶴 - Inner stripe mutation of Nishidemiyako

How could I forget!

One of the most desirable of Fuukiran. It's ranked lower on the charts than Fuukiden, but it commonly sells for 5-10 times the price. It's an extremely slow grower and doesn't really like to clump very quickly contributing to its rarity.

This one is also usually classified as a Navy-Fukurin, but in really nice specimens, the inner stripe is very clear.

The interesting this about the Higuma is that it has green outer margins, and the inside stripe is actually tiger stripe variegation. So the inner stripe usually isn't a clean uniform streak, but rather the mottled color of a tiger stripe plant.

Hakumin mentioned Oborozuki. SE had one on their July list that I wanted, but unfortunately it was already sold. The stripes are hazy to a really nice effect. Here's their flickr pic:

This is another informative thread. I do have Akebono. I have had it growing in the brightest light possible and its striping is becoming more pronounced. I also have a Touyoden that Seed Engei advises would be called Akebono if its striping become brighter.

If I do NOT want it to become Akebono, I put in less bright light? How do "they" keep this straight?

These nakafu types are gorgeous if the inner stripes are consistent even if the border of the inner and marginal areas are not so delineated. They are also a bit tricky to grow as they stripe if the lighting conditions are perfect. When u find that perfect spot do not move it... Some like medium light and others low light but few like bright light in my experience. My favorite one is Mikado

Thanks Matt! But the best nakafu is by far the Manazuru ... It is bright yellow center, deep grass green margins and a RUBY root!!!
