I have three falcuta but, once, I had four. The benisuzume just really didn't like me. Right away, it just started to die. I did manage to keep it going for a few more months but then it...succumbed.
The others have always been grown in net pots and red lava rock as I love seeing the roots crawl all over the rock and out of the basket. :) |
straight lava rock? How big is the pot?
Do you grow indoor? If so, how often do you water now? curious. :) |
I overwinter mine in a lightly heated greenhouse. The heater kicks on at 40-45F. I water once a week or so in the winter during warm days.

I think that temp range is about perfect!

I'll try to take some pictures for you today as pictures are better than explaining. They go outside during the summer and I water every other day by soaking them for a few minutes in a bucket of water I have on the porch.
|
What sort of light do you put them in outside, Leafmite? We're in the same grow zone, but I think it might be slightly less humid here in the summers, since I don't see a rain cloud between about now and late September.
|
I give them very bright shade with some direct morning sun. We usually have good humidity during the summer but we had a very hot, dry summer in 2012. I had to soak all my Vanda-type orchids in a bucket for a few minutes, twice a day, to keep the roots happy. The rock really seems to help with humidity.
