Completely fell head over heals over this variety, an oldie but a goodie. I had only seen pictures of it before. Purchased it while visiting OL in MN this weekend. It is placed in a Japanese hand-painted Neo pot for the photo op. :-)

WOW!!! That is breathtaking! That is probably the most beautiful plant I have seen without blooms. The leaves are beautiful all on their own and this is a plant I'd buy even if it never got flowers.

That name made me snort-laugh. Hokage means fire-shadow. But mostly, it was because I'm a Naruto-fan (NOT the English version - Japanese only, please!), and their village leader is called a Hokage. So essentially, it has the same name as a cartoon character. Awesome!

So pretty too, btw.

Great purchase.. this has always been a favorite type of mine... they come in several varieties of this category... hokage, taiga, koeun, keshomaru, benigeshou... all have the white tigering on green that can be tinged with pink and red... and RUBY roots!!! Easy to grow but a bit tricky to get the coloration. In winter most plants revert back to just green... a balance of the light, cold and watering will bring the plants to color again... it varies from plant to plant and one just has to play with the settings, much like on the TV... LOL ... the color you see will change year to year... and might change week to week!!!! it takes art (time and skill) to create this living treasure's display...

I got a chuckle out of this line, recalling that I think I read somewhere that Jason Fischer is off on a trip about now, and wondering whether someone may have sold you a prized plant from his personal collection.

Gorgeous hokage!!! I'm a huge fan of hokage and its various cousins.

Thank you very much for your comments.
NeofinetiaCanada2014, I just learned something new. Thank you. Does it require special care to maintain the colors?
Jayfar, I really don't know but they did consult over the phone beforehand and the purchase was ok'ed. :-)

Hi Cat, my pleasure to add and learn from this forum...

To maintain the colors you presently have, keep it in medium bright light and water when top moss is dry... it should maintain the colors for a couple months... in the fall and winter give it the brightest light u can: east, west or shaded south (40%) in a cool area (minimum 10 C at night) ... maybe that will keep colors vibrant... would be nice if u update us monthly pics with changes?

Lol, I was thinking the same thing Jay. As I said on FB that is a specimen plant that has been lovingly grown for years. Anyway enjoy
