That's awesome! What do you use to cut your bottles? I recently bought a bottle cutter (the ephrim one) and have only had success with beer bottles. If you feel like passing on any tips that would be really appreciated - I wanted to cut larger bottles and use them for s/h too

I use my dremel tool with a diamond disc cutting wheel. It looks like a disc that is covered in a rough metallic sand paper-like texture-- cuts through glass pretty easily. I will cut any size bottle depending on my needs, but I prefer the 1.5 liter bottles (both in terms of drinking wine AND for orchid sh pots ). The 1.5 liter is obviously bigger than your standard wine bottle. However, the standard wine bottles are perfect for smaller orchids, like some bean leaf neos or even the smaller asian dends. They seem to work like a charm! Also, I'll use wine bottle with just the very top cut off for asian cyms as they like long roots. I still need/want to design a pot, however, that asian cyms in wine bottles can slide in to for decorative and display purposes.

How convenient, there is a Dremel in the garage.... I will have to get busy while my partner is still away at work. Should have seen him when I was drilling a hole in a glass - "oh my god your going to die!" - even though I was drilling under water, slowly, with safety glasses. No faith in a woman with power tools!

Lani how'd it go? I did up another one yesterday and will do another today for two plants I got at the Denver orchid show this past weekend. This is another...yes, another Lou sneary I got this past weekend. I cant help it, I love neo hybrids.

I even drills holes in the upper part of the glass so I can hook or tie line so as to hang the plant. I have them hanging from some egg crate that is vertical under one of my lights.

I love this idea! I have seen wine bottles made into betta tanks but to me they are too small and inhumane.
They are perfect for your neos though!
