Book a room and make a weekend of it?
Figure that you'll have the fullest selection from vendors on the first day. On the other hand, you can cut some nice deals on remaining stock on the last day.
If you get tired of orchids, Philly has plenty of other cultural attractions to fill out a weekend (or much longer).

I wish SEPOS was a four hour drive. From Fort Wayne, IN it is a good nine hour drive. If I can get three friends to tag along, I am planning to leave mid day Friday, stop around 8PM, spend the night and drive in on Saturday, spend all day at the show, spend the night and drive back on Sunday. It's an Orchid mini-vacation!
But I might attend the Michigan Orchid show, to be held the same weekend and only a three hour drive. My society is thinking of putting in a display for that show. Hmmm, I'm thinking we might go to the Michigan show, set up the display, and then drive down to SEPOS, and on our return trip pick up our display at the Michigan show? So many possibilities!

I almost feel guilty that my biggest problem with getting to SEPOS would be parking if I wasn't a 5 min drive from a transit center followed by a half hour bus ride and a short walk! But Matt if you do make it we'll have to get in touch. At the very least you should get one real Philly meal while you're in town. A trip to Jim's Steaks is definitely in order!

I don't really have room in the budget for renting a room, which I admit would be the best option. I think I may pop in on Saturday.

I'm beyond thrilled that SEPOS chose to continue to hold the show at the Academy of Natural Sciences, as the former venue, Longwood Gardens, was literally a case of "you can't get there from here" via public transit. The Academy is just a 25 minute walk at most from my place.
|
I understand that SEPOS signed a 5 year contract with the Academy of Natural Sciences. So it will be there for a while.

Load-in is Thursday all day. Friday morning is the show judging and the AOS judging is in the afternoon. Show opens to the public Friday morning. I always think early in the show is best while the vendors' stock is fresh. If you're looking for something specific, contact vendors and have them bring it. That way you're assured of getting what you want; can inspect it before taking possession; and don't pay shipping costs

True! But if I get to meet you, Jayfar, Adrienne, Satomi, et al, spending money on gas and hotel room, will be worth it. And thanks for reminding me to bring money so I CAN buy more orchids!

Mostly likely, I won't be able to attend SEPOS this year.
