Thanks... it's been rough seeing the damage and I'm certain I'll lose more plants but it'll be ok... I'll get through this nd back to orchid peace soon.
I have ordered a new T5 fixture-- it is only a 4-bulb fixture... my other is an 8 and I love it but I don't have the space for another big one. I grow in a small bathroom in the basement that had its toilet and cabinets removed. When you walk in to the room, you'll see shelves with lights on either side and set up so you can water plants where they sit on the shelf. I have lost that ability sadly but the floor drains still exist and I won't have to go far to water the plants so it'll have to do. For my neos and other like them, I have rebuilt a metro cart that will now roll into the room when I'm not in it and out when I need to get in there. I have linked the cords and
misting supply lines up and out of the way and so moving this cart in and out of the room every time I go in is not ideal, I've minimized the burden.
The good thing is, I can roll this cart out in to the greater basement area where it is noticeably cooler! I see this as a big plus because I can better simulate seasonal changes for these special little plants. The only disadvantage is that they won't enjoy high humidity, however, I can roll the cart back in to the room during the night hours so they can enjoy the cool moisture then, too.
On a side note, I have several neos in sh pots... and NONE of them suffered any damage....*long pause here*..... I may reconsider my culture of these plants moving forward when root growth begins again.
Also, all neo hybrids are undamaged even though they were in the thick of the nasty conditions next to the species... all made it out unscathed.
