I thought the spots before were physical damage from when it was shipped to me by a forum friend here. The box got squished but it's been months now and these spots keep coming. I removed the badly damaged leaves two weeks ago and the plant looks like this again.

It was sprayed with clearys for rot but perhaps it needs it again? I'm open to suggestions. It gets the same treatment as all my neos and this is the only plant that seems to have this issue.

Thoughts?

Yikes!

Is it one of the tigers? Nutrition issues leading to weakening of the tissue and infection? If you can suppress the infiection, focus on greening it. Worry about getting it to variegating it when its healthy.

If I'm not mistaken this is one of the most tiger variegated plants known. Meaning, it's supposed to be this variegated. Maybe I'm wrong.

Again this plant gets the same treatment as the others, which are fine. I'm not suggesting you're wrong but it's weird if it's malnourished. I'm wary of changing much except the application of clearys.

Just speculating.

But you gotta admit, it lacks chlorophyll even for a Neo tiger. That impacts its ability to process food/energy.

I agree. So I treat it and then feed it and move it to lower light?

Ryan, is that Kogane-nishiki? I've had a hard time with this plant: already killed one, second one purchased in June is hanging on. Placed it far back in the tray it gets was less window light than my Kinrokaku which is on the windowsill and loving it.

Good luck! Ganbatte kudasai!

Whoa, that thing looks awful. What's the root system on it like?

I don't think that's a deficiency in nutrients. They look like burns. Perhaps over fertilization? Do you dose ferts? If not, are you using tap water? If so, do you know your water parameters?

Adrienne I'm not sure of the name at the moment but is advertised as being one of the most "golden" of all tigers. I think the name translates to something like the clothes of the flower.

Anyway I've moved it back the center of the lights and more to the side. Do you think it's nutrition as well? The photo is a shot of the main fan which seems to be the only one affected. The smaller growths have some nice green to them on the spine of the leaves.

It is definitely not over fertilization. In fact I'd think it's too little. But with that said all of these plants get the same dosage, which is less than quarter strength. I admit to having the plants in some pretty high light so perhaps they are light burns. I've moved the plant.

I flush these plants at every watering. Though recently repotted the plants do not see build up of salts and I use RO and well water. I do happen to know my water composition since it's a well. We are blessed with rather clean Rocky Mountain water.
Oh and while the roots could be better (in my opinion all roots could be better. Lol) the plant has many healthy living and robust roots.

I've sprayed the plant down with clearys this morning and over it to a less direct lighting area. I'll grab a pic of my kinrokaku as well so you can see the difference.
