Fugaku

I got this plant months ago, maybe back in July or so. Anyway I think I snatched it from one of you guys on eBay. Lol. It arrived looking a little weak and when I finally repotted it I found it had almost no roots in the moss. It begs. Going downhill fast when in a last ditch effort to turn it around I soaked it all day in a seaweed mix with very light fertilizer and then placed it in semi hydro, and it got misted every day twice a day for about a month until I saw small root tips emerging. After that it went with the other neos and got misted heavily once a day or as needed (tried keeping the hydro from completely drying out).

It's now grown several roots in to the substrate and has become more sturdy it the pot. At the beginning of this attempt to save it, the plant would easily fall out of the pot.

I think it's finally turning around and now gets a shot of fertilizer and seaweed every couple of weeks with everyone else.

Can't wait to see this thing take off. It won't likely stay in sh long term but for now, I think it may be happy.

I'm really surprised how much yellow variegation that has. Seems to be a lot more than typical fugaku.

It really does have a lot of yellow variegation and it even looks quite similar all around... not really like the spread pattern striping that should happen on a fugaku? Mine is still small but has quite a lot of yellow too, but not like this. Maybe u got a mutated fugaku? or not even a fugaku at all?

even so... whatever it may be... the amount of yellow accounts for the slow growing of the roots, since it doesn't get a lot of photosynthesis from its leaves! I really hope your plant survives and produces a healthier root system! The plant itself looks pretty already

Thanks, guys. And yes, it is very yellow. The good thing is the green parts are a healthy, strong green. It lives under T8 lamps and they're pretty close to the plant. A suruga fukurin that lives near by has razor sharp stripes of variegation and an asahiden that even has very clear patterns, which I'm told you can only get if the light is on the upper end of its desired range.

The roots, surprisingly, grow fairly quickly. And this particular plant gets sprayed down with a fertilizer mix that includes megathrive, which is supposedly used to revive plants after shipping but is also used to boost vitality in a plant using molecules readily absorbed through plant tissues, roots and leaves alike. I don't normally such claims, but I've used this megathrive for nearly a year now and it produces interesting results-- the biggest result being a healthy flush of root growth. I don't use it too often as it can create mutations and not the funs ones that everyone likes-- but mal-formed flowers etc.

I love this plant and hope its form improves with time but I think that some of that will be me training the new fans to grow in a more pleasing balance. As it is, it kind of looks like the plant is lounging a bit much-- get up and stand straight!

That is one healthy looking Neo you did a great job saving it. As everyone else has said surely have lots of yellow mine has muted yellow regardless it is just beautiful. Keep giving it your magic.

Maybe it's an aojiku fugaku, wich is an more intense variegated fugaku. I have one, bougth years back from mr Lehr.
