First flowering of Neofinetia richardsiana in South Africa.
Hi All,
My N richardsiana has finally flowered and I can't believe how small the flowers are compared to N falcata. Neofinetia falcata are not common in collections in South Africa and I can guarantee that there are no N richardsiana in cultivation here in South Africa, so it is quite a rare event that one has flowered here.
Well the flowers have been open for three days and I have noticed that two of the flowers have been pollinated already, probably by some moth ( I grow all of my Neo's outside).
I have also been sniffing the blooms for a scent and last night there was no scent. Tonight, however, I noticed a distinct scent of Jasmine, not as strong as N falcata, but a scent nonetheless. Last night was a lot cooler than this evening and I suspect that warm evenings trigger the scent.
Anyone else noticed this?
Photos to be posted shortly.
Regards.
Craig Gibbon.
