Default Neo Hybrids

So you guys know how I feel about neos-- love them-- can't get enough of them-- sadly I can't get enough funding to get enough of them even if that were possible.

However, I also LOVE neo hybrids because of their color, shapes, sizes-- I think they're as interesting as neos themselves in many ways.

I found this photo:

Is it not fantastic? And what makes me so excited is that I have a group of neo hybrids that is nearing this size. Of course, it helps that I keep adding to this bunch of hybrids, but I had to share.

So who else loves their neo hybrids? Or am I alone in this? LOL

Please share you hybrids here-- I'd love to gather a comprehensive list of hybrids, pics of them and even people's culture methods.

I love them, too, Ryan. When Peter T. Lin from Diamond Orchids comes to speak at our OS next April will be in big trouble. I have:

2 Neostylis Fuch's Cream Puff
1 Darwinara Charm
Huge compot of Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom
1 Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Blue Bird'
1 Nakamotoara Newberry Apricot

All but the compot are in Orchiata or Orchiata/Spaghnum moss/charcoal/perlite.

JEALOUS:
1. Cream Puff
2. Nakamotoara
3. Darwinara!!!!!

I knew you had the cream puff but I didn' tknow you had the other two. How do you grow yours? I use to grow mine in sh but they only do ok. With my t5 lamps I can give them the light they need and with my smaller room, I can have enough humidity that they don't dry up. They are under auto misting two a day and have loved it. The three above are on my wish list. I have two cherry blossoms-- one keikied and the keiki split off and is now as big as mom!

I also want Vandofinetia White Crane and will admit to drooling over Nakamotoara a little more than I probably should! LOL Peter is out of them, though!

Admittedly, I don't really care much for most of the hybrids. I only have a couple Darwinara Charm crosses and that's it. I'll probably get one other and I'm done.

Ryan, the Cream Puffs, Darwinara Charm and Cherry Blossom compot all were gifts from kind Mr. R. Wu at the 2012 IPA Symposium.

I got the Nakamotoara from the orchidPhile last month as Peter's sold out rapidly after it was on the cover of the AOS mag last August. Do you want me to pick one up for you?

Mine are grown in Orchiata and the larger of the two Cream Puff's sits in my living room south-face windows. The others are under T8 lights in my little orchid room.

Yes, if you can find one I'd love to have it!

I think I like they so much because of their variability and different colors and yet if given the chance they will grow like neos too. I need to look in to more darwinara.

I think the reason I don't like them as much is because the growth habit can get much larger than standard Neos. I just really like compact sizes. I do like some of the white/blue flowered hybrids though. Where else does one acquire these hybrids? I'm curious to see more photos.

Some of the Neo hybrids can get very large, especially if the Neo is just 1/4 of the genetic makeup. I have 3 Neo species, including an older Amami Island clone that's a foot wide, so it's pretty big even for the species. Neofinetia falcata 'Cosmo' 2012 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I agree that Neo hybrids are wonderful. My Neostylis Lou Sneary has stayed pretty compact (though the roots dangle a good meter below the basket) and puts on a wonderful show every June. My favorite has to be Vandofinetia Kelly's Cloud Catcher which is N. falcata X V. Sally Roth (V. coerulescens X V. coerulea).

Lovely swan-like flowers and very fragrant of grapes, it's a plant that makes me happy.
