Nishidemiyako 西出都 "West Side of Kyoto"
You say poetatoh, I say poetahtoe, warchun warchin--however it is, this vendor sells some mighty fine Neofinetia. There is a member of our Neofinetia subforum named "coffeecup" who was selling some excess plants, making room. I bought some beautiful Phalaenopsis hybrids from her. You may want to PM her and see if she still has some Neofinetia left on her re-home list. Didn't you get a plant or two from her Jayfar?

Yup, got a very nice, sizeable clump of Yodonomatsu bean leaf.

Here is an update of this plant that provided blooms in October 2013. Here it is setting blooms. Sadly, the central leaf--which was last as a small leaf back in October got some kind of brown spot that is slowly spreading to the Tsuke. I cut off part of the leaf but the cancer(?) continues to spread.
If anyone has any idea on how to save this leaf please let me know. After I cut the leaf end, I did swab with cinnamon to cauterize it but to no effect.

Hey Matt, this happens once a while. The causes can range from sun burn to bacterial infections. Best to cut off the leaf 2 mm below the green border, spray cut area with hydrogen peroxide or dip with sulphur. Keep area dry for about 10 days. Keep plant watered as usual. If the leaf continues the browning to the center tsuke even after that, u will need to save the plant by dividing and repotting the rest of the plant from this growth. You might need to cut off the flower spike in that case. Good luck!!!!

Thank you for the advice on this plant. This has been a very watched over plant. The brown decay has stopped. I keep hoping instead of flowers it starts producing new fans. It hasn't produced new roots either.

Great to hear the brown stopped. U might want to cut the spike to save energy for new growths?

Matt, I have been having that same problem with some of mine, starts with a brown spot and travels. Never had this problem before! I water from the bottom so it shouldn't be from getting water on leaves as some people have suggested to me. I have lost a couple to this whatever it is, so keep a close eye on ALL of yours! Good luck.....Jean

That is how mine started, a brown spot. The way I got the brown "cancer" to stop was to zap the plant with Thiomyl systemic fungicide. This is generic for Cleary's systemic fungicide. I have my one and only Vanda coerulea with the same problem and was treating it with this fungicide, that worked for it. Then I realized Neofinetia are also Vanda so I treated my Nishidemiyako with this stuff. And that seems to have arrested the brown decay.
My next step is to remove the flowers and get the plant to focus on root growth and developing a fan--as NeoCanada2014 advised earlier. It really pains me to take this measure as flowers are so hard to come by, but it is for the plant's survival and my own continued joy having it in the alive list.

I know that is a hard call Matt I felt for you when I read Leslie's advise. I remember you posted a pic of that Neo last year with beautiful blooms. I hope it makes it you have certainly given it your best.
