I thought that once a Neofinetia has flowered, it is done for the season? When I got this plant July 31, 2013 from eBay vendor warchun, it arrived with flowers, very pretty and fragrant. The flowers lasted about nine days from the day the plant arrived.
The top three leaves were coming in solid green, no striping. I have had this plant in the sunniest, east facing location thinking that would help the plant get more stripes. Instead the top three leaves are very dark green--a nice color but a yellow stripe would be nice. This must be a striped plant that requires less light? If some one can confirm that, please reply!
Because the plant was high on the shelf, it is hard to just look at it unless it needs water. It has been about six days since I watered this group of Neofinetia. I have Neofinetia in nursery trays. I brought this tray to my kitchen sink to water. This is the cycle where I water each plant with plain water to flush any chemical residue in the pot.
This plant has given me a major surprise: a spike!! If you compare warchun's eBay photo posted above, and compare these pictures taken today, the small leaf has grown as large as the other leaves. There is no variegation to be found on these three leaves. Should I put this Nishidemiyako 西出都 "West Side of Kyoto" in a shadier location?
A closer look. The spike looks like a scepter.
Here is a top view that shows the three green leaves.
