This Neofinetia falcata was purchased from NWO this past weekend. This plant was in a grow tray with ten other Yubae plants. I did not want a small plant. Neither did I want the big multi-growth plants. There were a total of four plants of equal size, in which this plant was one. Being able to personally pick a plant and take it home was a real pleasure. This is the most expensive Neofinetia I ever bought. It has four growth and two babies.
This plant is potted in a 3.5" black nursery pot. Since it was repotted May 2013, Glenn encouraged me to wait a year before I repotted.

Might that be spelled Yubae Sa ngetsu, rather than Sahgetsu. Healthy looking plant by any spelling of course.

very nice indeed.
Is the moss filling up that square pot or is there a hollow part (or something else) under the plant?

Jayfar, I checked the tag and it was hand written that way. This is where I feel most disadvantage--not knowing the language!!! It wasn't the usual NWO tag. If I had mail ordered it, Glenn would have replaced the tag. I'm glad I have this tag as someday, I will be able to read the kanji. Once I attain that ability, I'll circle back to this note and to your query and let you know the correct name. Deal? <S>
Speaking of pots, s.kallima, this is the way NWO grows all of their plants while in the nursery. It is solid moss all the way through the pot. I asked Glenn about this practice, he stated that it was the best way for them to grow their plants under their care, in their environment.
Glenn observed that plants get into a lot of problems when their roots are in too much water for too long a period of time. This is manifested in the plant's leaves. If a leaf has a little black spot on it or the leaf tips are brown, that is usually the result of a plant living with constantly wet roots. Since they provide a lot of humid air in the green house, it is not necessary to water the plants as often. This solid pot helps retain the moisture. I did not see this blemish on any of NWO's plants. This is good advice for me, as I tend to over water.
Before a plant is sent to its new owner, NWO takes the plant out of its nursery pot, and re-mounts it in fresh sphagnum in the traditional high mound with hollow center in the three-footed, slotted, black, plastic pot. (If the plant is sent abroad, it is sent bare root.) This ensures that plant has even odds of surviving in its new environment. The new owner would not have to re-mount until a year or so later or if the plant is being groomed for a show.

Also the spelling with n is what comes up on New World's website. Yubae (夕映え) is evening glow or sunset glow, the latter per google tranlate.
Sangetsu wouldn't tranlate in the google tool, but a search brings up a page for the Sangetsu School of Flower Arranging, which states that sangetsu means 'mountain moon.'
Sangetsu North America - History
Quote:
The Sangetsu School of Flower Arranging was established on June 15, 1972, inspired by the flower arrangements of Mokichi Okada. The name “Sangetsu” means "mountain moon". The name was taken from the beautiful teahouse, Sangetsu-an, which was constructed in the gardens Okada created surrounding the Hakone Art Museum in Gora, Japan. Okada felt that natural and man-made beauty should combine and complement one another in all parts of life. It is with the desire of sharing this ideal that the Sangetsu School was founded.

Nice Matt. Seed Engei has always listed this plant as just Yubae. I guess it just makes it less confusing.

I was thinking the same as Coffeecup, the kanji is the same between seed engei, NWO and OL, so maybe Yubae is just the short name for it? I also saw it written Yuubae on another forum...

Hmm, NW has both listed (under special Neofinetia). Seems the Sangetsu is yellow and red, versus yellow and pink for the plain Yubae.
Quote:
Yubae - Sangetsu 7 $350 Flowers yellow and red, seedling.
Yubae - Sangetsu 8 $350 Flowers yellow and red, seedling.
Yubae 1 $110 Flowers yellow and light pink
Yubae 1 $110 Yellow Neofinetia crossed with a Pink one. Large BS Plants 6"
Yubae 6 $440 Flowers yellow and light pink

Thank you Jayfar for your diligence in ferreting out mis-information. I was looking at my very special Yubae 'Sahgetsu' after work today. I pulled out the tag to re-examine the writing on the tag. I looked carefully at the word 'Sahgetsu' written on the tag, there was a little bit of debris on this tag, and behold, the upright staff of the 'h' flicked off, to reveal that the 'h' was an 'n'.
Opps. So there you go, Jayfar!!! Vindication! I have a Yubae Sangetsu 夕映え "Evening Glow". I'm glad you took the time to find the correct name for my plant. I'm of the opinion that I paid dearly for this plant but I knew when I found it at NWO I had to have this Yubae Sangetsu 夕映え "Evening Glow".
