Yes I'm here. I've been keeping up with the forum but not participating. Haven't had much time on my hands these days. But thankfully the weather is cold, snow has fallen and I have two very good reasons not to go outside and build, remodel or plant something.

Well here they are. The newest minmaru has it's root tips touching the pot and the media so the next few days I'll be sure to spray them down with water only and no fertilizer to see if the root tips will stay alive. The older minmaru looks terrible but actually is doing much better, believe it or not. The leaves are yellowed on the ends. Is this lack of nutrition or something else?

I would think the yellowing of the leaves would be too much light, but that wouldn't make sense with your set up.

Ryan;

I'm not sure about the source and causality link.

I had a Minmaru I got from J&L Orchids from one of their Japan trips that grew beautifully for about 2 & 1/2 years in bark in a small glazed pot on my kitchen window sill until it bloomed. Once the bloom finished it went downhill really fast and was dead in about 2 months.

Cheers.
Jim

Hey Jim, I wasn't really trying to establish a link just presenting some factual info along with observations. I still don't know why my one minmaru has discoloration on leaf ends. It seems happy enough to keep growing for now.

I don't have any words of advice....I just wanted to say that my miniature daruma type has been nothing but trouble for me as well, but my standard plant is very healthy. It might be a genetic weakness. Looks like the top leaves of your variegated japonica didn't have very much chlorophyll. It could have starved to death if you grew it under lights.

Well guys it's been a rough time with my seds but even after all the loss and damage done to my collection from a systems failure and from rot I am happy to report some good news. I have three seds, one minmaru, a variant of a minmaru and a standard sed. The standard is growing like I've never seen to grow before. It's really impressive to see how robust it is. The minmaru is also doing well but is slower but has all good roots...zero rot. The newest is my minmaru variant and I can report the same but it's so new I can't say for sure if it's happy with its new home. Once I get flickr figured out I will post pics but hey this is good news. I have new roots and leaves and no rot of any kind.
