Does anyone have seen plants or pictures of "big" Minmaru Shima ? It is like all the plants I see are always the same size (6 to 8 leaves), do they even grow more than that???
Coffeecup, how big is yours?
this blog is the exception

Mine is about that size, 6-8 leaves. Btw, that link isn't working. I haven't seen a large one myself either.

As you all know mine died as well despite all of my efforts to keep it thriving. I got two new ones recently as you guys advised. I immediately checked the roots. These guys have thick fleshy roots some were already gone when it came to me. I cut them off, used cinnamon on them and potted in a very loose and airy mound of spag. These guys simply need very little water. So I have backed off of them to them almost to the point of neglect the way I grow succulents. I think it is working if not I give up. I so feel your frustration Ryan.

I am puzzled as to why that particular plant of yours is not doing well whereas the others are happy=even the 'chabo' is surviving you said....
I suspect it has an infestation of some kind ....maybe fungal=bacteria will decimate it fast....a fungus that starts with roots then go up the leaves and kill the plant....that is my opinion because I haven't encountered your dilemma with any of my Sedirea japonica.

Just so you know how we're growing them at NWO, the little guys are in very small pots with moss. They are outside, so they get plenty of air movement and this summer they have had plenty of water. While our Neo's are TOO wet (more moss), it may be just the right amount for the Seds. I had a regular Nagoran up north this summer where we had less rain, and it did not like staying dried out. Maybe very well drained, frequent water, and lots of air movement. That seems to be working for us.

Thanks mine are growing inside with lights. I have a fan for air circulation and a humidifier. The Neos thrive with this set up but not the Siderea

Thanks for the advice. I have my remaining minmaru shima as seen above...it seems to dry out pretty fast. Like most, I think I have the humidity nailed, a pretty good amount of air movement. So ill do my best to water frequently since the whole thing seems to dry out quickly. We shall see how this goes.

Thought I would give an update on my sedirea experiment with the ecoweb media I purchased from Ray.
It was repotted out of moss at the end of September into ecoweb because the bottom leaves were wrinkling and the overall condition of the plant was declining. I put it in with the precut cubes of ecoweb, but I cut some of them into pieces to make a better fit. It was placed in a container for s/h and watered every other day with a 1/8 fert mix and a plain water flush once a week. I did a treatment of KLN near the beginning of Oct.
You can see that there is a new leaf growing and a peek in the media reveals several new roots!! I guess its case of the dwindles is over! I may switch my chabo and shima to this same setup.

Is there a picture? your post makes it sound like there should be but I'm not seeing anything.
I have two minmaru left-- one was a replacement and the other from Dr Glenn and NWO. The NWO minmaru was declining badly a month or so ago but I removed it out of moss and into aqua web and it is now growing new roots and a new leaf. The replacement minmaru has two new roots about to touch the aqua mat-- I'm really hoping they don't stall. If they don't I have faith I've finally turned the corner in culture for these plants. My regular sedirea seems to have weed genes and has no issues growing roots or leaves, even in 100% moss.
Im not holding my breath though-- not at all convinced I can care for these plants yet. Thankfully, aqua mat will hold water but doesn't keep the roots wet.
Also, I purposely won't visit my orchids every day. If I don't, my plants are happier. LOL
