Neofinetia falcata Koukakuden 紅嚇殿 "Majestic Crimson Lord"
Today I visited New World Orchid in Manchester, Michigan. I'll give you a more detailed report on my visit. Suffice it to say, it was a wonderful day.
As teaser, I want to share with you this plant. It was one of several plants in bloom. Notice that this plant has two flowers and one of them is a seed pod. Seed pods and finished blooms are routinely removed from the plant so that it can use this energy to develop more roots and leaves and future blooms.
I took this plant home so that I can see if the pod matures and develop into seedlings. Glen Lehr advises that growing these seeds into full plants would be an indeterminate plant since the pod was fertilized by an unknown parent. I thought it would be nice to see what would happen.
Being at this nursery was like being a kid in a candy shop! So many Neofinetia. I could've stayed longer and browsed all day long.

You got a great acquisition. It is interesting how the nectar is gone from the spur yet the stem stayed pink. It doesn't matter f you don't know the seed parent as long as you have a pod to flask....

Thanks Bud. Yes, as long as I have a seed pod! My thought (fantasy) would be that the pod matures, I get it flasked, the pod produces a lovely plant with dark red flowers, three nectar spurs, ruby red tipped, pure white roots, leaves that have white edge stripes and a straight Tsuke. And after three generations, the seedlings from this cross replicate, gets on the Meikan and everyone in Japan and the rest of the world wants one.
I think I have a bad case of counting my Furan before they are old enough to "hatch"!!

If one of the seedlings is mutant with all of the above characteristics plus mountain tsuke and bean leaves, I'll give you my first born child for it

Neofinetia falcata Koukakuden 紅嚇殿 "Majestic Crimson Lord"
You all really make my day! Thanks Joy, Phap-neo, s.kallima!
I have spent a couple hours today looking for information on how to nurture this seed pod so it does mature and I can get it flasked. The only other information I could find was Pilot/Ryan's adventure with his seed pod. I did come across a thread in SlipperTalk, where you, s.kallima asked about your pod that you had way back in 2010. How did that go for you? Are you now reaping the benefits of new seedlings?
Regarding first borns, Glenn Lehr showed me two plants, and I wish I paid attention, he called them "The King of Orchids" and the other was "The Queen of Orchids." Both plants bloomed earlier this year. The "King" is listed in the Meikan as the number one orchid.
I did not dare ask, but kind of waited on baited breath if Glenn would be forthcoming...he finally stated that together, this happy couple could be purchased at a minimum of US$2K! As much as I would have loved going home with these two plants....he even offered a discount...I reluctantly left them in Manchester, Michigan. (Sigh).

It took my plant 3 months to get the seed pods ripened ( I had crossed my Tougen with OOnami Seikai, it could have been nice offsprings!) I then sent the capsules to Troy Meyer Lab, but they had too low of a germination rate to get any flask. I didn't try it again (yet).
I am surprised the number one in the Meikan would sell for "only" $2K! When you see the price of a baby Ryokuo-shima...

King of fuukiran is a variety called Fukiden. Queen of fuukiran is called Mangetsu. They are prized because of the consistency of their variegation. $1000 is the usual going price for a mature 1 growth plant. Only SE sometimes has them for a slightly lower price but that's because they have their own nursery in Japan. I think every hard core fuukiran fan eventually wants to get a Fukiden. There is just something undescribably different about Fukiden compared to other simalarly variegated varieties.
