My Neofinetia story, with a hokage in flower - Page 4 - Orchid Board

I got 2 new Neo's this september, along with a sedirea japonica that I got from a orchid nursery in the Netherlands, and best of all, 3 plants for the price of one, only 25 euro's! The Neo's are a Neofinetia Hisui 翡翠 and a Neofinetia Nishidemiyako 'New world' CHM-AOS 西出都

from New world orchids. During transport the nishi got a small infection of the central leaf of the oldest growth so I lost a few leaves on that one, but it's stopped for now and the side growths are growing fine. I was surprized by the size of the nishi, I thought it would have longer leaves, but do u guys think it needs to grow a bit to get a bigger leafspan? For the moment it's only as wide as my tamakongou? But I am sooo happy with these new additions and I hope to grow them as beautiful as I can... so if anybody knows how much light they need to aid the variegation, any tips are welcome

Hi Dries, I was looking at your pictures. I did not notice it before, when you first posted. But where did you get your plant tags?

Euhm, I'm not really sure Matt... I ordered them together with some plants but I can't seem to find my order info. They are just plain plastic tags though, but fairly tough and at the same time easily cutable to the right size with scissors. I obviously wrote the kanji on them myself, I did this because I had only few decent tags and most were different, this way I get some uniformity

That's what I'm talking about! You wrote the kanji? That is awesome. Do you read/write kanji? I like the red ink.

Proceed with extreme caution! Dries' plants are beautiful examples of Neofinetia. His photography and staging of his plants are designed with great attention. I'm lured. I'm sucked in. I've caught the bug. I plan to get one as soon as my husband lifts the "no more orchids" rules. I suspect that will happen in the spring, which is great. That gives me plenty of time to research them!

Dries, my Nishidemiyako has a leaf span from Tsuki to leaf tip of 7 centimeters. I have mine in bright indirect western facing window--at least five hours of bright daylight. Unlike your plant, it has only one large plant, no other fans. I'm hoping it starts setting up more fans. For now it is just finishing its second blooming. Flowers are very fragrant.

When your Hsui blooms, you will be very happy--delicate, fragrant, green flowers.
