Congrats, Ryan! Welcome to the wonderful world of hybridizing. Please put me down for a small compot.

And, Joy has it really bad: she wants a Minmaru-shima!

Adrienne-- she's a local great-Denver peep, too!

Joy if you would like to see a minmaru-shima in person just let me know... I'd say within 48 hours you'll have bought one. LOL

Adrienne-- as for the pods-- just sent them off today. David McDaniel is the guy I've been chatting with and he knows Glenn well. Glenn sent me a Vandofinetia as a gift in my last order and I saw David's info on the back of the tag-- so when I got pods to set on my kinrokaku, I figured i'd ping him and it worked! apparently tiger stripes are thought to not pass to progeny, but he suspects it does, but that people don't grow them out long enough into maturity and the cross I chose features TWO tiger stripe parents, so he has hopes that they will in fact grow as tigers stripes, too.

Thankfully, he's excited enough about the cross that he's agreed to do it for plants instead of monetary payment. My plant hobby isn't self-sustaining enough to pay to have MORE plants that demand my attention. LOL

I'm not sure, really... I imagine it'll be a few years before they're really up and growing with blooms. I don't mind though-- this was totally on Quay teaching me how to make the crosses and on a whim I figured i'd try it out.

Thanks! Kinrokaku isn't a bean leaf but it's also not terribly large (or, at least mine isn't)... but those pod are SMALL. And pollen is insanely sticky...HOW I got them to successfully pollinate is beyond me...and two pods, no less. I grow so many other plants and many, when pollinated, will SWELL and show signs of seeds... but these pods are not big and while they swelled a little, it's hard for me to imagine they contain anything. But then I was told that you can't really see most orchid "seeds" without the aid of magnification... so who knows.... hopefully it yields tons of plants I can share.

Oh, Dr. McDaniels of Orchid Classics. He spoke at last year's IPA Symposium about Neo/Phal intergenerics. Very cool!
